1. Information We Collect

We collect minimal information necessary to provide and improve the VertoPDF service:

• Account information (if you register): email address and password (hashed). We do not collect your name unless you provide it.
• Usage data: anonymous conversion counts stored in your browser's local storage to enforce daily free-tier limits. This data never leaves your device.
• Payment information: if you purchase a paid plan, payments are handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
• Log data: our hosting provider (Netlify) may collect standard server logs including IP addresses, browser type, and page visit times. These are used solely for security and uptime monitoring.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide, maintain, and improve the VertoPDF service
• Process transactions and send related information (receipts, invoices)
• Respond to support requests and questions
• Monitor and analyse usage patterns to improve performance
• Detect, prevent, and address technical issues or abuse

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising profiling.

3. File Processing & Privacy

VertoPDF is designed with privacy as a core principle:

• Browser-based tools (PDF merge, split, compress, image conversion, etc.) process all files locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your files are never uploaded to any server.
• Cloud-assisted tools (Word to PDF, Excel to PDF, PPT to PDF, PDF to Word, PDF to Excel, HTML to PDF) require server-side processing. For these tools, your file is sent securely over HTTPS to CloudConvert. CloudConvert deletes files immediately after conversion. Please review CloudConvert's Privacy Policy for details.

4. Cookies & Local Storage

We use browser local storage (not cookies) to store:

• Your daily conversion count (resets at midnight) — stored on your device only
• Your login session token (if you create an account)
• Your plan status (free/pro) after authentication

We do not use third-party tracking cookies. Google AdSense (shown to free users) may set cookies for ad personalisation; you can opt out via Google's Ad Settings.

5. Third-Party Services

VertoPDF integrates with the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

• Netlify — hosting and serverless functions. Privacy Policy

• Google AdSense — advertising (free tier only). Privacy Policy
• Google Fonts — font delivery. Privacy Policy

6. Data Retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g. financial records for tax purposes, typically 7 years).

Files processed through browser-based tools are never stored anywhere. Files sent to CloudConvert for cloud conversions are deleted immediately after the conversion completes.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Correction: request correction of inaccurate data
• Deletion: request deletion of your account and associated data
• Portability: receive your data in a machine-readable format
• Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests

8. Children's Privacy

VertoPDF is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email or by placing a notice on the site. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of VertoPDF after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
